Today we’re excited to introduce new features to our UP activity trackers which significantly enhance the experience of tracking sleep and activity, and expand insights into your individual heart health.
At Jawbone, our products are update ready. Through over-the-air band updates we can add features that make our products even better over time. We deliver these updates seamlessly to your device, as we have done in the past with previous products.
Today, existing UP2, UP3 and UP4 users will receive the option to opt into a free firmware update via their UP App. This update is available on both iOS and Android versions 4.7 or later, and adds a number of great new features.
Passive Heart Rate
If you own an UP3 or UP4 fitness tracker, you’ve already been enjoying unique insights about your Resting Heart Rate from our Smart Coach system within the UP App. With today’s update, you’ll now also enjoy Passive Heart Rate data combined with Resting Heart Rate data, for a more complete picture of your heart health.
As we’ve discussed here on the blog before, Resting Heart Rate is one of the best indicators of overall heart health, as it’s taken first thing in the morning before heart rate is affected by any external factors such as food, exercise, or stress. Your Resting Heart Rate is unique to you. It depends on your body, your lifestyle, and your genetics. To give you a more complete look at this heart rate over time, we’ve added a new Resting Heart Rate page with 7-day and 30-day trend metrics. Now at a glance, you can easily get quick insight into your personal heart rate data.
With today’s update, UP3 and UP4 will now also detect Passive Heart Rate, captured periodically throughout the day during moments when you are still. Passive Heart Rate, when compared to your Resting Heart Rate, gives you a more complete picture of your heart health and helps you become aware of how factors such as caffeine, stress, and other stimuli can affect your heart in daily life.
As UP captures your Passive Heart Rate over time, Smart Coach gets a more complete picture of your health and is able to offer even more tailored advice.
Automatic Sleep Detection
This update will add Automatic Sleep Detection to UP2, UP3 and UP4. Simply wear the band to bed and UP will automatically detect when you fall asleep at night and wake up in the morning. Your sleep graph will appear in the home screen of the UP App when the band syncs with your phone, without any need to change modes on the band. The system will continue to recognize and track detailed sleep stages, with UP3 and UP4 capturing Wake, REM, Light and Deep sleep as it did before.
No More Tapping
The addition of Automatic Sleep Detection also eliminates the need to switch modes by tapping the band, a request that came directly from the UP community. The band still supports tapping to dismiss Smart Alarms and Reminders, and band pairing. And if you prefer to track sleep manually, you’ll still be able to log sleep through the UP App.
We’re delighted to deliver these updates, and will continue to improve our products for you and the entire UP community.
- Automatic Sleep – UP will automatically track and log your zzzs. Understand the duration, quality and stages of sleep without switching to sleep mode.
- No More Tapping – Say goodbye to the hassle of switching modes. You can still dismiss alarms and alerts, but band-side mode switching is a thing of the past.
- Passive Heart Rate (UP3 and UP4 only) – See a more complete picture of your heart health. UP will now measure your heart rate throughout the day when your body is still.
Stay tuned for what’s next!
