Sherri nurtures her healthy pregnancy with UP3™
Everyday fitness is a part of my routine. Even being an expectant mom, it's a part of my life. When your body changes so much, it's important to monitor your day-to-day activity. It's important for the health of the baby.
“Everyday fitness is a part of my routine. Even being an expectant mom, it's a part of my life,” says mom-to-be and UP3™ wearer, Sherri McMullen. “When your body changes so much, it's important to monitor your day-to-day activity. It's important for the health of the baby. If you take care of yourself, you can take care of anyone else.”
For the past nine years Sherri has been the proud owner of McMullen, a popular women's clothing boutique in Oakland, California. “Up until now,” she laughs, indicating her visibly pregnant belly, “my business has been my baby. Some days I am working with designers, and looking at product for the store and doing the buying. Other days I am working with customers and helping them get fit for any type of event they have in their lives.”
Despite her hectic work routine, Sherri finds balance using her UP3™ to keep track of her activity, sleep and health. “I think UP can mean so many different things. For me it means having a real balance in life, my career, and in being a new mom—which I get really emotional about. Even when I am feeling tired from my daily activities and being on my feet all day; being an expectant mom, I try and get in as many steps as I can.”
In addition to helping her find balance during her pregnancy, Sherri's UP3™ band also identifies problem areas to work on. “When I entered my third trimester, I noticed in the UP App that my sleeping patterns changed drastically,” she explains with a note of surprise. “I wasn't getting the same amount of sleep, or the deep sleep that I was before. I was also waking up in the middle of the night quite a bit.”
Sherri was also surprised at the amount of steps and sleep disruption that New York Fashion Week instigated, “My pace and my sleeping patterns changed from day-to-day during Fashion Week versus when I was not at Fashion Week. It was amazing to see the difference in the results—in how many more steps I took and how much sleep I didn't get during that time,” she explains. Being in the fashion industry, it also doesn't hurt that Sherri finds UP3™ compatible with her personal style, “I like to accessorize my UP and I wear it with different bracelets that I carry at the store. To me, it is a fashion piece; I like to pair it with my own personal things.”
When the conversation turns to her motivations for living a healthy life, Sherri's eyes sparkle, “I am passionate about the business that I have, my family, my friends, my dog.” We ask if she has plans to keep her own family healthy and happy, “Exercise and eating the right things is really important in our household already— and also making sure I'm not eating as much ice cream after the baby comes,” she adds with a laugh.
We are excited to share that since this interview, Frederick Henry McMullen Wilkinson was born February 28, 2016. Sherri and son are healthy, happy and doing quite well.
